It
is fair to say that Jessica Gildersleeve had an unusual
childhood. Born in Alaska and raised in the rural South
East portion of the state,
she took advantage
of what nature and
the outdoors had to offer.
She
has fond memories of
swimming, fishing, hiking,
playing in the woods, and like
all children, exploring whenever
she could. Alaska gave this young
woman a sense of adventure and
curiosity that simply could not
be quenched in her later years
leading Jessica to travel to new places.
Attending
boarding school in
Washington she gained a special
love for photography and was
blessed with her first camera
for her 15th birthday by her
father. It was then that she
began her first experiments
with nudes and self-portraits,
a theme that continues strongly
in her work several years later.
It
is the true sign of an artist
who can put everything of
themselves into their work,
and ask of the audience
nothing in return.
